Municipal Road Aid Funds
A public hearing will be held via video teleconference, in conjunction with the regular Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of obtaining comments regarding the proposed use of Municipal Road Aid Program funds for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Comments for the public hearing may be submitted in advance to city staff or via commenting during the hearing via live stream on the City’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CityofNewportKY/ ).The proposed use of these funds is for road improvements such as resurfacing, rehabilitation, or reconstruction and signalization for City streets. Funds will be used for reconstruction and maintenance of roads including expenses such as filling potholes as well as snow removal and treatment, street cleaning, line painting, and repair or replacement of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, lighting and signage when done in conjunction with a street reconstruction project.

Public Inspection: The City’s budget and proposed uses of Municipal Road Aid program funds are available for public inspection at City Hall during normal business hours. If the City building remains closed due to the pandemic, appointments to inspect the budget may be made by contacting the Finance Department at 859.292.3660. Budget information is also available for review through the OpenGov portal on the city website (https://newportky.opengov.com).
Any person who cannot submit written comments or attend the Public Hearing but wishes to submit comments (especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities) should call the City Clerk at 859-292-3668 by July 15, 2020 so that the City can make arrangements to secure such comments. By law, the City must advise that persons with disabilities wishing to attend the hearing may contact the City Clerk before the meeting date if special arrangements need to be made; however, due to the pandemic and state of emergency, the meeting will be held via video teleconference therefore entrance to the city building will not be necessary to witness and participate in the public hearing.
