Newport Arts & Music Fest Saturday, October 1^st - “Call To Artists”

“Call to Artists” for Artists/Artisans to participate in the Newport Arts & Music Fest on Saturday, October 1^st from 11:00am-4:00PM at the Newport History Museum @ The Southgate Street School – 215 East Southgate Street.

Artists/Artisans will have a reserved 10’x10’ booth space (you provide canopy/tent, table, chair, etc.) in the Hofbrahaus parking lot adjacent to the History Museum. The fee to participate is $30, which includes the city’s Temporary Occupational License.

If you are interested in participating, please e-mail bholiday@newportky.gov by Monday, September 26^th to receive an application.

For the second year in a row, the Newport Independent School General Educational Development (GED) program Campbell County Adult Education (CCAE) – has been ranked the number one program in the state by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. CCAE has outstanding partners, including the Brighton Center’s Center for Employment Training (CET), also based in Newport, and Campbell County Jailer Jim Daley. The program was honored in Frankfort by Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman.

Falcon Theatre opens its’ 2022-2023 season with the Regional premiere of playwright Lauren Gunderson’s The Half-Life of Marie Curie, a compelling new play about renowned scientist Marie Curie and radical engineer Hertha Ayrton—and the friendship that strengthened their resolve to pursue their ambitions.

Performances are September 23, 24, 29, 30, October 1, 6, 7, and 8, 2022.

In 1911, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. By 1912, she was the object of ruthless gossip over an alleged affair with the married Frenchman Paul Langevin, all but erasing her achievements from public memory. Weakened and demoralized by the press lambasting her as a “foreign” Jewish temptress and a homewrecking traitor, Marie agrees to join her friend and colleague Hertha Ayrton, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette. The Half-Life of Marie Curie revels in the power of female friendship as it explores the relationship between these two brilliant women, both of whom are mothers, widows, and fearless champions of scientific inquiry.

Filled with snappy back-and-forth dialogue, this two-woman play is directed by Ted J. Weil, and features Tara Williams as Marie Curie and Tracy M. Schoster as Hertha Ayrton.

Open Fridays and Saturdays, now through September 24 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. These nights feature our lowest prices of the season!

Beginning Thursday, September 29, we are open Thursday through Sunday until October 30. Sunday & Thursday times are 7-11 p.m. and Friday & Saturday times remain 7 p.m.-1 a.m. We are also open Halloween Monday, October 31 from 7-11 p.m.

For regular show dates, General Admission tickets range from $23-$30, Fast Pass tickets are $36-$50, Front of the Line tickets are $50-$70. RIP Experiences for any show (for a more intense, immersive experience) range from $36 - $80 depending on day, date and ticket type.

Our adult only Captain's Extreme Tours are on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 from 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. Prices range from $30 - $70.

The program mails an age-appropriate book monthly to enrolled children.

How Does it Work?: Families who live in Campbell County can sign up their children, from newborn to age 5, online or at any of our branches. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will send each enrolled child a new book every month. You will begin to receive books eight to ten weeks after you register.

Stray cats are not accepted at the animal shelter. Stray/outdoor cats will be trapped, spay/neutered, vaccinated and ear tipped, then released back to their outdoor

neighborhood. This is a humane way to deal with community cats. It gets rid of the nuisance behavior like fighting, breeding and spraying.

Campbell County’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library - A FREE book mailed to your child every month!: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is available in Campbell County! Thanks to a partnership with local schools, we are proud to offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to children under the age of five in Campbell County. The program mails an age-appropriate book monthly to enrolled children.

The books are absolutely free to you and yours to keep. There is no cost or obligation to your family.
