The Newport Public Works Division, under the direction of the Public Works Director Ray Ebert provides many essential functions with a primary focus on providing street maintenance. This department of only nine full-time employees and one mechanic does a tremendous amount of work year round to help maintain a high quality of life and safe conditions for our residents and visitors alike. Among their many regular responsibilities is maintenance of street signs, repair of potholes, and maintenance of lane markers and crosswalks.
The Public Works Division is also responsible for the following:
Pot hole repair
Street and curb maintenance
Grass mowing and landscaping of city property
Litterfest (large item disposal events in the spring and fall)
Flood protection and flood wall gate maintenance and monitoring
City vehicle maintenance
Litter and trash pickup
Special event preparations - setup and teardown
Removal of struck animals from public right-of-way
